1964 Volkswagen Beetle

Owner: Warren Caruso

I purchased this Beetle in December 2007.  It had undergone a frame-off restoration by the previous owners.  The first owner, a retired German mechanic, began the restoration nearly 10 years ago.  The majority of his work was with the engine and chassis.  After some hip surgery, he was unable to complete the restoration and the vehicle remained disassembled until the 2nd owner purchased it two years ago.  He completed the body and interior portion of the restoration.  This Beetle has spent its entire life in the Fayetteville area.

Because the vehicle was inoperable for so long, I've had to replace the brakes and suspension seals due to the lack of use.  I don't fault the last owner though.  He never really drove the vehicle, so how would he know?  I also discovered that the heat riser on the manifold was clogged, so the engine would not start on cold mornings.  While waiting for the parts to correct this problem, I took advantage of this "down time" to clean, repaint and detail the engine.

This model has a 40HP, 1200cc air-cooled engine.  It's not fast, but it is economical...  I'm currently getting 29 MPG!  The color is "Panama Beige" and it has a grey two-tone interior.  It still has the original 6 volt electrical system.
